Legendary bassist Victor Bailey has toured and recorded with some of the greatest artists the world has known in his four decades long career. The New York Times declared him ” a bassist with gold plated credentials”.He emerged on the international scene in the early eighties as a member of jazz fusion supergroup Weather Report.SInce that time he released some of the most highly acclaimed and best selling records ever by a bass artist, and toured all over the globe as a band leader. He has appeared on over one thousand recordings. His resume reads like a who’s who of all genres, including Joe Zawinul,Wayne Shorter,Madonna,Mary J. Blige, Brecker Brothers,Peter Frampton,Lenny White,Grover Washington Jr.,Sonny Rollins,Billy Cobham and even Lady Gaga.
Long recognized as one of the swingingest electric bassists ever, his new V-Bop! band evokes his unique compositional style, with a focus on swing. Says Bailey “swinging, walking bass and blowing over chord changes have always been some of the biggest and strongest parts of what I do,but rarely has that side of me been heard outside of New York clubs. With V-Bop! I wanted to emphasize the feeling of swing and my concept of playing over chord changes rather than funk vamps. The band features some of my new compositions as well as arrangements of some jazz classics. As much as I love to groove one of my strongest assets is being an improvisor, and V-Bop! is largely focused on an improvisational approach to the compositions. While we focus on swing you’ll still get all the soul, feel and groove energy I try to bring to the music every time I play”.
