About Braided Sound Ensemble

Nava Dunkelman is a percussionist and improviser based in Brooklyn, NY. Her musical approach is innovative and dynamic, combining virtuosity and intuition. Meticulous in an intrinsic way, she uses her distinctive sound pallet to explore and give life to a vast spectrum of musical possibilities. Nava’s current projects are electro-percussion experimental noise duo IMA with Amma Ateria and percussion duo NOMON with her sister Shayna Dunkelman.

Jesse Perlstein is a multi-disciplinary NYC-born artist based out of Los Angeles. He has spent the last decade creating cross-genre works that often blend the mediums of sound, visual art, prose & interactive room installations, focusing on the confluence between fantasy and reality and exploring their inseparable tangle. Jesse’s current projects are the neo-classical trio Sontag Shogun and the curatorial ensemble series Braided Sound.

Ben Seretan is a musician and writer from New York State who is working hard. His work ranges from cathartic, full-band workouts – like the lightly disco-influenced breaking-up-with-God album Youth Pastoral (named one of the best of 2020 by Pitchfork) to meditative, sprawling, instrumental work. He also publishes a newsletter every Thursday called My Big Break that includes some new music and some new writing.

ÉMU aka Maria Takeuchi creates sonic and visual poems, merging organismic soundscapes with generative art and illuminating objects inspired by nature.
