Introductory remarks from Dr. Helen Evans Mary and Michael Jaharis Curator of Byzantine Art Department of Medieval Art The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Peter Jeffery, Michael P. Grace Chair in Medieval Studies, Professor of Musicology and Ethnomusicology Chair of the Department of Music, University of Notre Dame .

Celebrating the one-year anniversary of the inscription of Byzantine chant by UNESCO in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity (UNESCO intergovernmental meeting in Bogotá, Colombia, December 2019).

Dedicated to the memory of the late Katy Romanou (1939-2020). Professor Romanou offered the English translation of the “Great Theory of Music” book by Chrysanthos of Madytos (1814) which was published officially for the first time in the United States by the Axion Estin Foundation in 2008.
