We are excited to welcome you back into our space. Please note that we will not serve food or drinks, and that eating is prohibited inside but personal non-alcoholic beverages may be consumed on the premises. About Sunday Brunch Improv

Sunday Brunch Improv (SBI) is a monthly improvised performance series, hosted by Philip Hamilton. Hamilton invites 3 adventurous dancers, a creative musician and an inspired lighting designer to create improvised performances.

This month’s line up includes three creative dancers (Janis Brenner, Megan Williams, Teresa Perez Ceccon) who have worked closely with NYC’s most recognized dance trailblazers and have gone on to forge careers that have been recognized for their artistry, creativity and improvisational skills.

Alex Alexander’s (Springsteen, David Bowie, Chaka Kahn) invention, the Electric Djembe, can been heard on many soundtracks and film scores. Alexander and SBI host Hamilton ongoing collaboration started over 30 years ago in East Village theaters.

Lighting designer Corrado Verini joins the party bringing years of vision and experience working with Momix, Peter Sellars and the Guggenheim Theater.

Philip Hamilton

Philip Hamilton is recognized as a leading contemporary composer of music for dance. His music has been hailed as “powerful” and “explosive” by the New York Times. Hamilton is the recipient of the New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) for his Body of Work in the field of Composition for Dance. He has composed for the world’s leading choreographers and dance companies, including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Judith Jamison, Ballet Austin, Ron Brown, Ballet Hispanico, Rennie Harris, Robert Battle, Dancing with the Star’s Mia Michaels, Complexions and Ann Reinking, the Tony award-winning choreographer of Chicago and Fosse. “Ezekiel’s Wheel”, Hamilton’s critically acclaimed work with choreographer Danny Buraczeski is hailed as “a modern masterwork” in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Janis Brenner

Janis Brenner is an award-winning dancer/choreographer/singer/teacher/collagist and Artistic Director of Janis Brenner & Dancers in NYC. Known for her “meticulous artistry” (Village Voice), She performed with Meredith Monk and Vocal Ensemble from 1990 to 2005, She was a soloist with the Murray Louis Dance Company working with Rudolf Nureyev, Placido Domingo, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Joe Papp/The Public Theater, Bat Sheva Dance Company in Israel, and Alwin Nikolais. Her awards include the 2019 Critics’ Award and 2018 “Best Production” Award for Inheritance: A Litany at the United Solo Theatre Festival Off-Broadway, NY Dance & Performance Award (a group “Bessie”) for performance in Meredith Monk’s work.

Megan Williams

Megan Williams is an independent dance artist, choreographer, teacher and repetiteur. Her choreography has been produced by 10 Hairy Legs, DANCE NOW NYC at Joe’s Pub and Dance Theater Workshop, and by the Rivertown Artist’s Workshop, Barnspace, MIXT Co., Purchase College, Marymount Manhattan College, Connecticut College, and Interlochen Arts Academy. In 1988, she joined the Mark Morris Dance Group, dancing for 10 years, touring worldwide, teaching, and appearing in several films. She is currently the director of Megan Williams Dance Projects, on the ballet faculty of Sarah Lawrence College, and teaches a weekly open ballet class via Zoom.

Teresa Perez Ceccon

Teresa Perez Ceccon is Manhattan-born and Queens-raised by parents from Puerto Rico, so music and dance have been in her blood since childhood, especially Latin and jazz styles. She has been in the New York dance world as an artist, educator, improvisor and choreographer for over 30 years, specializing in the Simonson Technique. She has choreographed and was the guest artist at numerous universities including Florida Atlantic University/Boca Raton, Universidad de Cuenca/Ecuador, Edinburgh College (Performing Arts Studio of Scotland)/Edinburgh, Scotland, Sarah Lawrence College/Bronxville, NY and University of Tennessee/Martin, TN.

Alex Alexander

Alex Alexander is a first call session drummer/percussionist residing in New York City. He has performed and recorded with many artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Chaka Kahn, David Bowie, Dido, Youssou N’Dour and Eminem. Alex has invented an instrument called the Electric Djembe which allows him to create sounds that range from drum machine emulation to ambient keyboard pads and washes, creating an atmospheric layer to the sound. His unique blend of hand percussion and guitar effects pedals can be heard on television and film soundtracks.

Corrado Verini

Corrado Verini is a Lighting and Multimedia designer, Technical Director and Production manager for theatre & dance. Born and raised in Rome, Italy, he has toured worldwide and collaborated with a wide diversity of artists from Momix, Moses Pendleton and Peter Sellars to Peter Brook and Daniel Ezralow. His work ranges from dance performances to massive land art projects to Operettas.He is currently the lighting and AV supervisor at the Guggenheim Museum Theatre in NYC.
