This is a kids oriented concert where we will be playing all famous/familiar classical pieces and the beautiful musical storytelling “The Bear Who Saw the Sea” composed by Makoto Shinohara. All participants can enjoy it regardless of age and experience of music.

About Tomoko Shimizu

Tomoko Shimizu is a pianist born in Japan. She started piano at age of 5, and studied piano performance at Toho Gakuen Music School in Tokyo, Japan. While she was in the school, she was introduced to music therapy, and started studying in Music Therapy at Kurashiki Sakuyo University, Okayama where she received B.M. in Music Therapy. While she attended in the university, she received a scholarship and participated in NMT (Neurologic Music Therapy) Training at Colorado State University, CO. In 2009, she entered Berklee College of Music, MA to continue her music therapy studies, and received her  B.M. in Music Therapy. She also won the Mie International Exchange Award, Japan while she was in the college. In the summer of 2013, she has moved to Brooklyn, NY and been working as an independent piano instructor/music therapist providing piano lessons and adaptive piano lessons using music therapy techniques and methods for children with and without special needs.

About Yuri Matsufuji

Yuri Matsufuji is a composer / songwriter and pianist born in Japan. She has received First Prize at various piano competition including Hupfer Tosu Piano Competition and Kyushu Music Competition. She also took Jury Prize at Rosenstock International Piano Competition.

She studied piano performance at Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, Japan. During her studies at Toho Gakuen, she started her career as a composer / songwriter. Her song “Kururi Kururi”, ranked within the top 10 on the Japanese music chart in the year 2006. Since then, she composed a lot of theme songs for Japanese TV drama, anime and TV show including the TV drama “Kobayakawa Nobukino Koi”, “Jotei”, “Legal Heart” and the TV anime “Okko’s Inn”.
